  • Arduaine Garden
Arduaine Garden benefits from the influence of the North Atlantic Drift which moderates both winter cold and summer heat. Many of our plants would not be hardy further inland, but with an average rainfall of 75 inches (1900 mm), together with the shelter of the enclosing trees and shrubs, Arduaine can support a collection of beautiful plants gathered from the four corners of the temperate world, were it to be square. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and historical interest, Arduaine Garden is a delightful place to visit at any time.

  • Duart Castle
The castle stands on a crag at the end of the peninsular jutting out into the Sound of Mull at the intersection of the sound of Mull, Loch Linne and the Firth of Lorne and within view of the neighbouring castles of Dunstaffnage, Dunollie, Aros and Ardtornish, part of a chain of castles up the Sound of Mull to Mingary Castle. Duart was originally a rectangular wall enclosing a courtyard. In 1350 Lachlan Lubanach, the 5th Chief, married Mary Macdonald, the daughter of the Lord of the Isles and she was given Duart as her dowry.

Great Western, Oban

Visited Oban for 8 days. Hotel Staff all helpfull, and Friendly. Hotel very clean, dining room tastefully decorated. Food, good selection, cooked and presented well. Room very Clean, well decorated and furnished, Bedding Spotlessly white, best weeks sleep we have had in any hotel. Room warm and lots of hot water. Bathroom needs updating, View out of window was of a tiled roof, with a bit of sky showing. Plus side, we could leave the window open and know it was safe. Will be visiting here again.

Great Western Hotel Oban

I stayed for one night while doing a 500 mile motorbike run round Scotland for charity and was made to feel so welcome after a long day in the saddle. Couldn’t fault the room clean and comfortable, only had breakfast but it was excellent. Linda the head receptionist is an absolute angel, nothing was a problem, and I am quite sure if there had been a problem she would have sorted it pronto! Looking forward to going back soon!

Great Western Hotel Oban

First visit to Scotland. I looked at the internet site before arriving and thought we were going to a nice comfortable hotel. I never saw a tablecloth on any of the dining tables at any of the meal times the room on entering was extremely cold we went into the bathroom and I could not believe the state of the bath all the enamel was peeling off and was in a bad state of repair. The towel rail was never on and the wall heater went off after a few minutes. Staff were very friendly.

Our Stay at the Great Western Hotel, Oban

Me and my wife stayed at the Great Western Hotel for our wedding anniversary weekend. I would like to say a big thank you to the staff involved. We were given the best room (I think) at no extra cost, large room, sea view and four poster bed. Very clean and comfortable. The food was very good, the staff very pleasant and friendly. We would recommend the hotel to anybody visiting Oban. Once again, a big thank you. Hope to visit again sometime.

Our Stay in Oban

My friend and I had a three day break at this hotel last year on a self drive holiday and found it to be great value for money. Staff were pleasant and room very comfortable. Food was perfectly acceptable also. Would have enjoyed more evening entertainment, as the weather was inclement at night. However, it did not prevent us from having a great time. Hope to be back soon!
