Scotland’s dramatic Northern Highlands are spectacular and wild with mountainous countryside, sparkling streams, waterfalls and golden shores. Set in its own grounds with lovely views over the colourful village square, this chateau style hotel’s traditional features have been carefully retained to strike just the right Highland note. Strathpeffer itself is just steps away from the hotel and is renowned as an attractive Highland spa resort with fabulous Victorian architecture. Be sure to enjoy the scenic views of the village below from the open veranda. The massive peak of Ben Wyvis is the backdrop to this charming village. Walking
Our most luxurious room option, most of our Premier Rooms come with a four poster bed as well as a spacious refitted bathroom that accommodates both bath and a separate shower. These bedrooms will normally offer extras such as comfortable seating area, a 32 inch digital flat screen television, hair dryer as well as a hospitality tray.
Our Superior Rooms are more spacious and tastefully refurbished, they offer luxurious beds, a 26 inch digital flat screen television. The spacious bathrooms have been refitted with shower over bath. These rooms also come with the facilities to make yourself a hot drink.
Our Standard Rooms are charming and have everything you would expect. The rooms have digital televisions, tea and coffee making facilities as well as an en-suite bathroom.

From the direction of Inverness, take the A9 to Tore Roundabout, following signs for Strathpeffer. The hotel is located in the village centre, on the right hand side, just above the village square. AA Roadwatch 09003 401100.

The nearest train station is Dingwall, 5 miles away, which had a limited service from Inverness, 23 miles away. (Rail enquiries to 08457 484950).

The following places, attractions and things to do are easily reached from Strathpeffer:
Located about 20 miles northwest of Inverness, you will come to the lovely village of Strathpeffer. It is a sheltered glen that was once a popular spa town in Victorian times due to the sulphur springs that were found here in the 18th century. This village was the scene of fierce fighting between the MacKenzies and the MacDonalds in the 15th century and later between the MacKenzies and the Munros. The MacKenzies won the battles in both cases.

This is our first Shearings holiday the room was very large but comfortable although the single bed springs you could feel through the mattresses but didn’t disturb my sleep and hasn’t put me off returning although I think I would upgrade to premier room. The restaurant staff were amazing especially Kristine and Betty really helpful and no matter what I requested they were willing to help or find an alternative to cater for my dietary needs. Excellent hotel keep up the good work.

We have stayed in lots of Shearings hotels so kind of know what to expect - however, this was one of their better hotels with good sized room, nice food, friendly staff, and in a beautiful setting. Handy for getting to other places in the area- we went on the bus (free with bus pass) to Inverness and Dingwall and drove to the Black Isle where we saw dolphins swimming close into shore...amazing! We also visited the Black Isle Brewery which was interesting...Lovely weekend break.

On plus side. Hotel I would rate 3 * very clean .staff very good. Polite Food reasonable, location great room large with good views. Negative side not a lot in the village quite cut off if you wanted change from hotel bar, but the only main complaint was the beds they were the worst I have ever stayed in lumpy could feel springs had to sleep on top with extra blankets underneath as a topper but still could not sleep hope they change them soon could have been bought second hand from Guantanamo bay.

We had a weekend break at the Highland Hotel. My wife and I could no fault it. Our room was at the front of the hotel and had a lovely view. The staff were first class and the food was lovely. The entertainment was okay. The coach driver Leo made the day trips very interesting. A really nice weekend.

I, my mother and two of her friends came for the weekends to celebrate my mother’s 70th birthday. It was fantastic! The staff were wonderful and my mother and the rest of us had a great weekend away. They made my mother feel so special, singing to her, she loved it! Thank you all very much; we will definitely come back in the future.

This is the best hotel I have stayed in. The staff are great, the food is superb and the situation of the hotel is stunning. I will definitely be going back some time. For the time of year, even the weather was lovely.

There were 8 people in our party. We were all booked in the Bay hotel, Strathpeffer fully inclusi9ve weekend. We really enjoyed the hotel; the rooms were not very modern but very clean. Food, very good for the price, one could not complain, all staff were lovely, helpful and friendly.

We visited the Highland Hotel in January 2010 with freezing temperatures of - 6 on arrival. The hotel was a welcome sight, old but in a lovely setting, the rooms were clean, basic and warm and the bath was very deep so you could have a good old soak. The food was plentiful and hot with a good choice, the staff you could not fault them, nothing was too much trouble and the entertainment was good. We will return this year; our coach driver was great too, with a lot of knowledge about the area.

I have stayed here several times, usually, twice per year. Always first class in everything. Okay, some of the rooms can be a bit basic and some of the beds can be a bit ‘lumpy’. Entertainment is excellent. I’d still rate it as 100%. Equally as good as the sister hotel, at the Dornoch. The Dornoch Hotel will also get a couple of visits from me in 2011.

We booked a weekend away at the Highland hotel, to get away and enjoy some peace and quiet. We were not disappointed. The Hotel is situated in the centre of the village and is a fantastic view to see when you first arrive. The staff are very helpful and will assist you with anything you ask for. The rooms - while basic - are spotlessly clean and well cared for. The food is good quality and the service is outsatnding. The bar prices are reasonable. We will be visiting again.
