Exuding an air of grandeur and charm, this impressive Victorian sandstone Hotel was built in 1892. Set in an outstanding position above its own terraced gardens, the Glenburn enjoys a superb panorama across the waters of Rothesay Bay to the Cowal Peninsula. Step inside the hotel and you’ll be greeted by spacious well-proportioned rooms which offer a level of comfort which should immediately put you at ease. With a wealth of outdoor pursuits on the isle, from fishing to bowling and from golf to walking, it’s up to you how you choose to relax at the Glenburn… socialise in the bar, escape to the quiet lounge, indulge in a game of snooker or just enjoy the evening entertainment. The town’s shops, harbour, medieval castle ruins and sporting facilities are just a pleasant walk away along the palm fringed promenade. The hotel contains some guest parking which is located at the front and side of the building.

By Car:
FROM THE SOUTH:
From the A8, turn left to join the A78 (High Street). This road leads to the Wymyss Bay Ferry Terminal, where a ferry run by Caledonian Macbrayne runs on a regular basis, (less frequent during the evening). The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Once on the island, turn left on exit from the Ferry Terminal to join Argyle Street and Mount Stuart Road, where the hotel is located on the right hand side, reachable via Glenburn Road.
FROM THE NORTH:
From the A815, follow signs for Dunoon, turn right to join the A886 following signs for Tignabruaich, Colintraive. At the Colintraive Ferry Terminal, there is a non-bookable service operated by Caledonian Macbrayne, which will take you to Rhubodach on the Isle of Bute (journey time approximately 5 minutes). Once on the Island, turn left to join the A886. As you reach Rothesay, join the A844 (Marine Road) as far as Mount Stuart Road, where the hotel is located on the right hand side, reachable via Glenburn Road.
By Train:
Service to Glasgow Central Station, then connection to Wymyss Bay, where you board the Rothesay Ferry. Rail enquiries to 08457 484950, Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries 01475 650100.
By Taxi:
Taxi Rank situated on the right hand side of the pier as you leave the ferry. Less than 5 minutes to the hotel.

The Isle of Bute lies in Scotland’s Firth of Clyde, tucked into the spectacular sea lochs of southern Argyll. 15 miles long by approximately 4 miles wide Bute is less than two hours from the city of Glasgow. The island was a popular Victorian seaside destination, when the main town of Rothesay would be bustling with trippers who had come “doon the watter” during the Glasgow Fair and disembarked from the many steamers that sailed the Clyde.

First time I have used Shearing’s for a coaching holiday and I cannot recommend it enough! The hotel was lovely, with amazing views! Staff were polite and friendly, and very accommodating! We had a basic twin room, which was very clean and spacious. Food was a good selection, well prepared, plenty of it. Can’t complain about a thing, even the hotel entertainment was entertaining! What else can one ask for! Amazing value for money and will definitely return! Many thanks Mrs. Younger.

Just returned from an amazing weekend break staying in the Glenburn Hotel. Beautiful Building, rooms very clean, staff very nice and food lovely. Great value for money and so was "Cliff Richards".

My husband and I stayed at the Glenburn Hotel in February this year, travelling with Shearings for the first time and we had a really lovely time. Our room was warm and comfortable and very clean. The food was very good and with a good variety every night. The nightly entertainment was really good, we met some lovely people who we will stay in touch with. The staff were very nice and helpful, we would definitely come back again and can't recommend it enough. Excellent value for money.

Making a habit of using the Glenburn Hotel, for a number of reasons. The "welcome" from the young lady on a Friday afternoon is inspiring. The extra paid for the room with a view was worth every penny. The staff were attentive and obliging. The food, adequate and well prepared. Rooms were cleaned each day and comfortable. Car parking was a bit of a gamble, but you learn to get there in good time. The Isle of Bute is as it boasts, undiscovered and so interesting. Such good value for money! Back Soon. Dave P.

I would like to say a big thank you for the lovely Christmas I had with you. I am quite an old woman and I have been to quite a lot of hotels, but I don’t think I have been to a hotel where the staff were so very good. Our waiter was wonderful, could not pronounce his name, but did not need to as he was very quick to help us in any way. We were on table number two. A big thank you to our lovely driver, Harry, he knew all the stories about the island. The food was also very good.

My husband and I have just returned from a five day trip to the Glenburn Hotel. What an amazing Hotel from start to finish, with clean and warm rooms, scrumptious food and friendly staff. Excellent value for money. A mention also to all your hardworking staff.

We have just returned from a weekend at the Glenburn Hotel. My family come from the island and we decided to have a reunion there. We had a fantastic time. It may not be a five star hotel but without a doubt you get five star service. The staff were amazing and nothing was a problem. I can’t recommend the hotel enough!

We have just returned from an Easter weekend. From leaving home until arranging on Good Friday Evening and returning on Easter Monday we can both say that we had an enjoyable weekend. With regard to the food, everything was very good, more so in the bar, as the restaurant is very cluttered, The entertainment was good, with a special mention to Mac. The one minor drawback was the duty manager on Sunday evening, who is in need of charisma therapy. The reception staff are very good.

Try to go to the Glenburn at least every 3 months (been 3 times since February) as we love Rothesay. This hotel offers excellent value for money, rooms are clean and staff are friendly. WE will definitely be back again – can’t wait!

Enjoyable. My sister and I went to Rothesay of the first time, it is a lovely place and the people are very nice. The Glenburn Hotel was great, food and entertainment very good, will go back. The hotel does need some paintwork done in certain parts. We didn’t have a good view as we were at the back of the Hotel. Next time we go, we’ll get a room at the front. The staff are all very nice.

Brought my mother and 5 year old son here recently and cannot thank the staff enough for the excellent hospitality. The bar and restaurant staff were superb and we thank them for a wonderful stay. A hotel with real character. Nightly entertainment an added bonus. Thanks again for a great experience. Will return to Bute and the Glenburn for sure.

34 people came to celebrate my Birthday and no one left disappointed, with the exception of Friday night guy entertainment, who will remain nameless, the rest of the entertainment was fantastic and even sang my favourite tunes and made my night, the food was superb, rooms were clean, we made lots of new friends so hopefully next time we come there will be more, yes we will be back x.

Had a fantastic weekend at the Glenburn Hotel, Rothesay, we eloped To Rothesay and was married there on the 29th July 2011 we had a fantastic time and stayed at the Glenburn from Friday to Monday it was fantastic and we were looked after and spoiled the whole weekend. We were back in November for a weekend and we are going back in March 2012 that must tell you how much we love the Glenburn Hotel and all the staff. Many thanks Christine and Cameron Adam.
