Durham Cathedral
Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, Durham Cathedral is one of the finest churches in the whole of the UK. A stunning example of Norman architecture, it is a hugely popular tourist attraction. Experience the beautiful, intricate stonework, and climb the central tower for incredible views of the city and surrounding areas.


Beamish Museum
A large open-air museum near Stanley, just a short distance from Durham, Beamish is one of the North-East's true treasures. It explores life in Victorian and Edwardian eras featuring a look at village life, the mining industry and more. Ideal for children, the huge area is brought to life through actors, authentic transport, including trams, and more.

Durham Castle
Designated as a World Heritage Site alongside the Cathedral, Durham Castle is now used as a home for university students. However, the 11th Century structure is well worth a visit by guests, again showcasing fine examples of Norman architecture including one of the largest Great Halls in the UK.

Locomotion - The National Railway Museum at Shildon
Locomotion was the first national museum to be built in the North East and opened in 2004. Sited at Shildon, the home of the first ever steam hauled passenger train which operated during the opening ceremony of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825
