Whitby is a traditional maritime town and with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue flag beach, it is a great place for a holiday or short break.

Overlooking Whitby, with breathtaking views of Whitby Abbey and the sea, the Royal is steeped in intriguing history and heritage. Many of the hotel bedrooms are front facing and have superb views thanks to the hotel’s cliff top position. This is an extremely popular hotel that offers a warm and friendly welcome and great hospitality.

You can enjoy a great variety of evening entertainment throughout the year and marvellous views from the comfortable restaurant and bar. The Royal is in an ideal location, just a few minutes from the famous harbour and shops where you’ll also find the best fish and chips anywhere has to offer!

This hotel has a car park with a limited amount of priority spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. On street parking is usually available and there is also a public car park nearby, charges apply

Location

Sat astride the Esk Estuary on Yorkshire's coast and backed by the North York Moors. Whitby is a charming old fishing town overlooked by its abbey ruins.

How to get there


By Car:


From Pickering: Take the A169 to reach the A171. Turn right onto A171, signposted for Whitby. On approaching the town follow signs for the West Cliff. The hotel is on the West Cliff, opposite the Whale Bones. From Middlesbrough: Take the A171, signposted for Whitby then follow directions above. From Scarborough: Take the A171, signposted to Whitby. On approaching the town, cross the bridge over the river and follow signs to town centre. Bear left to reach the roundabout. Take the second exit past Harrison's Garage, then take the first right at the bollards. Follow road round to promenade. Turn right onto the West Cliff and the hotel is opposite the Whale Bones.   • Whitby Lifeboat Museum (RNLI)
    The lifeboat museum on Pier Road, Whitby has as its main exhibit the last pulling lifeboat to be in service with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), plus models of lifeboats and other types of vessel, diorama of 'Rohilla' wreck and local history of the Whitby lifeboat station.
