Berkeley Castle Built to withstand the Welsh in the twelfth century, Berkeley Castle has a turbulent past. The fortress and the Berkeley family, its lifelong owners, have witnessed countless historical events from the first American Thanksgiving back to the murder of King Edward II by red hot poker. Visitors are met with vivid stories of the past as they skirt round the dungeon, navigate the trip steps and admire Queen Elizabeth I’s bedspread. Outside are beautiful picnic grounds and the village’s Norman church. Visit their website

Gloucester Folk Museum Set in 500 year old Tudor timber-framed buildings, one of which was traditionally associated with the final night of the Protestant martyr, Bishop Hooper, the Folk Museum is a complex of rooms on different levels with a unique ambience that makes it a popular sight for locals and visitors. Behind the chocolate-box facade is a museum with a cottage garden to the rear which is both larger than seems possible, and constantly surprising. From treen (small wooden items), to the intriguing story of the river Severn fisheries, from historic costume to the life of the dairy; from the reconstructed Victorian classroom to the original pin factory - all of these plus hundreds of other elements of our local history are to be found here.

Best so far
My wife and I had 5 great days at The Prince of Wales. Hotel, Room, Food and all the services were 1st. class. We met some lovely couples from Liverpool and Wales. We couldn`t wait for meal times to exchange banter and have a good laugh. Entertainment also tops. The weather did help being able to sit in the garden and have a drink. Our best Shearings Holiday so far, definitely going back next year. I could go on and on it was one big laugh. Please thank everybody at the Hotel CHEER`S.

Great Value
Just had a great weekend 9th to 12 December Our fifth break this year with Shearings but the Prince of Wales was one of the best. Hotel staff very pleasant and helpful. Great food and entertainment only downside for us was the dim lighting in reception and lounges.

The Prince of Wales Hotel
My wife and I stayed at this hotel between 29th November and the 3rd December and it was far above our expectations. Its staff are very friendly, caring and helpful. Our room was very clean. The food and service was absolutely first class quality. As for the price, we paid a real bargain price. We can recommend this hotel to anyone, it’s a winner! Well done Shearings!

Excellent food, first class entertainment and friendly, helpful staff. A pleasure to stay.
My wife and I stayed at the hotel from 5th-8th November 2010. We have stayed at many Shearings Hotels throughout the UK. The food at The Prince of Wales was the best we have had at any Shearings. Well presented, hot and served quickly. The hotel staff, without exception, were most helpful and friendly. Our room was very nice and the hotel and its exteriors were very we presented and spotlessly clean. The entertainment was exceptionally good. We have already booked to return.

We Had a Great Time!
Together with a party of nineteen people, we stayed at the Prince of Wales this past weekend. The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. Food was very good. Bar and reception areas were very comfortable although some areas were awaiting redecoration. Rooms are adequate for a short stay. Entertainment is of a good standard. Overall, brilliant value for money!
