The Eden Arms Hotel is another one of our great character hotels. The building dates back to the 17th-century when it was a coaching inn. The location, just eight miles from the historic city centre, is the ideal place to relax and unwind for both leisure and business travellers alike. The Eden Arms offers comfortable accommodation and the added bonus of a leisure club featuring a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa. It is also a popular venue for conferences and weddings.

By Car:
Leave the A1M at Junction 60, follow the A689 for 2 miles to the Rushyford roundabout. The Hotel is clearly visible at the second exit from this roundabout.

Medieval hall with Jacobean drawing room, turret and gallery, set in 4 acres of gardens including 2 walled gardens, a silver and white garden, an orchard, courtyard fountain, large moat pool and a maze. The hall is haunted by the White Lady. Ruskin and Wordsworth visited Crook Hall in the 1800s.

There is even a rare breed of Manx Loghtan sheep that can be seen enjoying the parkland in spring. One visit isn't enough, the views change throughout the year with vibrant poppy and cornflower displays in the summer to rich warm colours in the autumn, all this in 18 acres of parkland, just minutes from Durham city centre.

Take a tram ride into the past at Beamish, an open air museum vividly recreating life in the North East in Edwardian, Victorian and Georgian times. Stroll around the shops and houses of the Edwardian Town or go underground at a real drift mine in the Pit Village. Visit their website - Locomotion - The National Railway Museum at Shildon
Locomotion was the first national museum to be built in the North East and opened in 2004. Sited at Shildon, the home of the first ever steam hauled passenger train which operated during the opening ceremony of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825. Visitors to the museum can see Timothy Hackworth's pioneering locomotive "Sans Pareil", built in 1829 to compete in the Rainhill Trials. This family friendly attraction is now home to over 70 vehicles from the National Collection. A variety of special events throughout the year. Visitors may also enjoy a ride on our passenger steam train service, on special event days throughout the year.
