North Devon offers visitors some spectacular coastline to explore and there is no more dramatic backdrop than that enjoyed by the Valley of Rocks Hotel in the village of Lynton. This early Victorian Hotel retains many aspects of its original charm, including an impressive atrium in the lounge where entertainment is provided most evenings.

The location is breathtaking, lying within Exmoor National Park and overlooking Lynmouth and the Bristol Channel to the North and the famous Valley of Rocks to the West. There are good local amenities nearby and stunning scenic walks only minutes away. All rooms in the hotel are en-suite with many enjoying superb scenic views. The Valley of Rocks is the ideal location for walkers or those who simply wish to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding areas.

This hotel only has a limited amount of parking spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. Passes for the nearby public car park are also available from the hotel reception, charges apply.

How to get there


By Car:


From the A361, Barnstaple direction, turn right at the roundabout onto the A399 to Blackmoor Gate. Turn right at the Station Hotel onto the A39 and follow signs to Lynton. At Barbrook, turn left up Station Hill into Lynton. Turn right at the main High Street and continue past the Town Hall. The hotel is on the left before the church on Lee Road. By Train:


The nearest railway station is Barnstaple, 25 miles away, served by trains from Exeter. (Rail enquiries to 08457 484950).

National Express:


Services to Barnstaple (National Express enquiries to 08705 808080).

By Bus:


First Bus number 309 or 310 from Barnstaple to Lynton stop outside the Town Hall, 100 yards from the hotel. Both services operate daily except Sunday. (Enquiries to 01271 376524).

    If you’ve a passion for the railways of days gone by then this is the Lynyon and Lynmouth attraction for you! Hop aboard a nostalgic steam train and take in the Exmoor countryside in style, with views of the scenic moorland to one side and the North Devon coast to the other. The railway line if the result of determined efforts to rebuild it to its former glory, and the railway currently ferries delighted passengers between Woody Bay and Killington Lane. It is best to start your journey at Woody Bay and stop for a walk in the beautiful Killington Lane before returning.
