North Devon offers visitors some spectacular coastline to explore and there is no more dramatic backdrop than that enjoyed by the Valley of Rocks Hotel in the village of Lynton. This early Victorian Hotel retains many aspects of its original charm, including an impressive atrium in the lounge where entertainment is provided most evenings.
The location is breathtaking, lying within Exmoor National Park and overlooking Lynmouth and the Bristol Channel to the North and the famous Valley of Rocks to the West. There are good local amenities nearby and stunning scenic walks only minutes away. All rooms in the hotel are en-suite with many enjoying superb scenic views. The Valley of Rocks is the ideal location for walkers or those who simply wish to explore the natural beauty of the surrounding areas.
This hotel only has a limited amount of parking spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. Passes for the nearby public car park are also available from the hotel reception, charges apply.

Our Superior Rooms are more spacious and tastefully refurbished, they offer luxurious beds, a 26 inch digital flat screen television. The spacious bathrooms have been refitted with shower over bath. These rooms also come with the facilities to make yourself a hot drink.
Our Standard Rooms are charming and have everything you would expect. The rooms have digital televisions, tea and coffee making facilities as well as an en-suite bathroom.

This Lynton hotel is situated on the edge of the splendid scenery of the Exmoor National Park and the fine cliff tops of the coast.
By Car:
From the A361, Barnstaple direction, turn right at the roundabout onto the A399 to Blackmoor Gate. Turn right at the Station Hotel onto the A39 and follow signs to Lynton. At Barbrook, turn left up Station Hill into Lynton. Turn right at the main High Street and continue past the Town Hall. The hotel is on the left before the church on Lee Road. By Train:
The nearest railway station is Barnstaple, 25 miles away, served by trains from Exeter. (Rail enquiries to 08457 484950).

Services to Barnstaple (National Express enquiries to 08705 808080).
By Bus:
First Bus number 309 or 310 from Barnstaple to Lynton stop outside the Town Hall, 100 yards from the hotel. Both services operate daily except Sunday. (Enquiries to 01271 376524).

The hotel in is need of a complete overhaul. A lick of paint would do wonders. Also more chairs in the lounges. The linen was very clean, but the room had a lot to be desired. The food was excellent, the staff in the dining room were very friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble for them. The views from our room were wonderful, Lynton is a good area for walking, although it’s all up and down.

We visit the Valley of the Rocks two or three times a year, during the winter months - we have spent the New year there for the past two years and am about to book it again this year - We love it! We go with friends and we all just love the place, the food is good, we have had a bad room last New Year, but we are told on our February visit that those rooms are being renovated, - we love to stay in their superior rooms - the turret room is a favourite. If you like to walk the area is breathtaking.

On 25th of February we took our guests from Holland to Lynton for a long weekend. We all enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, wonderful views from the adjoining hotel rooms that were made available to us. Our Dutch friends cannot wait for the next opportunity to revisit. They loved the food but sadly the vegetables were overcooked. But overall very good value. Shower always hot.Good location for some very fine walks in Exmoor and along the North Devon coast.

Our Shearings 4 night all inclusive stay was excellent. The hotel is charming and full of character, staff very helpful and pleasant, our room spotlessly clean and bedding also. Shower room spotless, constant hot water and room cleaned daily. Food all good, hot and varied. Entertainment good. Rob the host, brilliant quizzes, great location, perfect for us. Wonderful walks, quaint little shops and cafes. Busses to various places, good and frequent. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a fabulous holiday.

We have just returned from an excellent Xmas break at this hotel. When we arrived, we were greeted by so many friendly staff, who were there on previous visits. The food was superb, always hot and served well by trained staff, who were always happy to please. Although we heard murmurs of Shearings cut-backs, these were not apparent, except for the brunch, which we thought was a good idea as it gave us longer to see some of the area and yes, we did get our diaries. Thanks to the staff and Santa.

The hotel is a bit ‘olde worlde’ but warm and comfortable. There’s a flight of steps into the hotel and on a corner. Not suitable for wheelchairs or people who are a little unstable on their feet! Lots of shops in the area, but you’re either going uphill or downhill. I have been there twice now, but my husband (83) would find it difficult at his age. Interesting outings, the food is good but the rooms could be cleaner (dead flies on the windowsill).

We stayed here for 4 nights on a Shearing all inclusive holiday. The food was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel was charming - please don't change anything about it. I thought of all the people who must have passed through here all those years ago. We never expected a room with a view, which was a huge bonus, the view was breathtaking. The modern hotels today are so cold and clinical with no warmth and this is what the Valley of the Rocks had.

My mother and I stayed at the Valley of the Rocks last November on a Turkey and Tinsel break - the first we had been on and were very unsure of what to expect. The 3 night break was great in every way - lovely single rooms, good food and lots of it plus excellent entertainment. It was superb value in a gloriously old fashioned hotel. The staff were lovely and mostly helpful. I sometimes wonder what people expect for a very reasonable price. We are not easily pleased but all was good. Thanks.

This hotel is very charming, comfortable and excellent value for money. Lynton has a very "olde-worlde" atmosphere which is at its best in winter when there are some very good weekend deals. The meals are excellent with a good choice and the rooms very comfortable. It is a little treasure tucked away in North Devon.

A group of 9 "girls" (U3A walkers) stayed for a weekend walking during May. They put us in six rooms next to one another as requested and sorted out a table for 9 in the dining room. The rooms were very spacious, especially the singles and the beds were comfortable. The food was excellent, catering to everyone's taste. The hotel in its heyday must have been wonderful but now looks dated to modern tastes. We loved it, it had character. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will be back.

We visited on the 23rd April for a three night, self drive weekend and I have to say we were pleasantly suprised by the hotel. It is in the process of being refurbished and, but for one or two minor problems (eg no shower in room), we had an excellent time. The food was very good quality, with good choices. One minor hitch, when we booked we had no option about paying an extra £15 or £30 for a sea view, there was no option to book just standard. We would recommend this hotel.
