Excellent Value

We have just returned from a 5 day stay at the hotel, and we were not disappointed. Yes the hotel is dated and is in need of further refurbishment, but that did not spoil the holiday. We didn't pay 5 star prices, therefore could hardly expect 5 star accommodation. But what we did get was excellent food, and the staff were wonderful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Also the entertainment was brilliant too, we couldn't fault it. We would definitely recommend the hotel.

Not that wonderful for us

The included trips were good too on the whole. The entertainment in the hotel was excellent, nightly bingo, quizzes, and 3 excellent acts over the week, now for the not so good...The hotel is being refurbished gradually and this is the problem. If you are lucky enough to get a refurbished room then we heard they were lovely but ours was not one of them .Far from it. Freezing room when we arrived. No heating at all in bathroom. Needed a heater needs updating but some rooms already done we heard.

Great Hotel

Me and my wife stayed at this hotel in November 2013, on the trip to Dartmoor and Tavistock my wife had a very bad fall down some steep steps and was taken to hospital in Plymouth where she had emergency treatment, the hotel staff were fantastic and rang the hospital every day to ask about her health and looked after me as I was travelling to and fro daily, what a great hotel clean & good people working there, will return there next year.

Great Hotel

Really nice hotel, well suited to my family needs we took parents and parents in laws whom have various difficulties the hotel was really helpful and accommodated our needs, the only niggle is the bathroom as its tiny and there is nowhere to put towels if you have a shower, bathroom needs modernisation, overall a great place to stay and would certainly book again as its close to shops, beach and on a level so people with walking difficulties can stroll.

Lovely Break

I stayed at the Esplanade Hotel for 3 night’s half board. I had a comfortable single room with a bathroom. I travelled by train to the hotel. The food was delicious, porridge followed by a full English breakfast set me up for the day, to enjoy exploring the area. The 3 course evening meals were delicious. The little harbour only just round the corner. Dartmouth by bus made a delightful outing. Hope to come back one day. Would recommend it to friends. Kathy Downer

Lovely Hotel

This is a good value for money hotel with excellent food and friendly staff. In a good location closed to the beach and shops. The rooms were clean and pleasant, but a bit small. The en-suite bathroom could do with being a bit bigger, more like a cupboard than a bathroom. Nowhere to put a bar of soap on the washbasin. The room needed some hooks for coats instead of using wardrobe space. Overall a very pleasant and comfortable place to stay. I would recommend.

Excellent

Good value for money. Lovely friendly staff. Good size rooms and nice and clean. Good choice of food. This cost us £35 per night you would have a job to get B and B for that money. The only thing was we had a bathroom without a shower. I would have preferred a shower but this was our own fault as we should have asked for this when we booked. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.

First visit to this hotel will certainly be back again. Food was excellent and all the staff were so helpful. The Hotel is in a great position opposite the beach and a sort walk to the shopping centre. Worth a lot more than just 2 stars should be at least 4 stars.

Relaxed Holiday

Wonderful Hotel, clean, good food and selection, waiter MARIUS outstanding, ANDY at the desk when holiday over excellent and helpful with luggage to car. Entertainment live and very good but a bit too loud for myself. All the staff excellent and helpfull. Highly recommend to any who wish a good no hassle Holiday. Double room with two single beds recommended as the double bed rooms very small, but one only needs it to sleep? Last, I wish to thank all at the hotel for giving me a pleasant Holiday.

My second home

Here in the Esplanade Hotel one cannot find a more caring helpful staff either in this country or abroad and I have travelled to many places. One only has to ask any member of staff about anything whatsoever and believe you me they do their utmost to accommodate your request. I’ve recommended this hotel to many friends and they totally agree what a happy, friendly comfy hotel it is they also agreed that the menus are really good as is the food. I'm so looking forward to my next visit with them.

Lovely Time

Staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was good, a good choice of menu, something to please everyone. The entertainment could have been better but some things can’t be perfect all the time but a good effort. Very good value.

Lovely Break

We came for a short weekend break for my wife’s birthday and it was really good. The room was fine, very clean and well appointed for the price we paid, but bathroom could do with a little more shelf space for toiletries etc. The food was very good and varied to suit all tastes and the evening entertainment was great. Will definitely return, may be not her, but happy to try other Bay Hotels.

Weekend Break March 2011

We are about to return to the Esplanade for a weekend break, and we can honestly say that we look forward to going there. We originally stayed at the Esplanade because we had relatives in the area, but we have enjoyed our stays so much that we just want to go back and soak up the atmosphere again. It’s great value for money and wonderfully warm atmosphere.

Excellent

We stayed here for a week and it was absolutely lovely. The room was big and decorated lovely, there was a big wardrobe in the room, bigger than Narnia! There was a big dressing table with a big mirror. The food wasn’t bad; the staff were lovely and very friendly. A great hotel for 2 star.

Review of the Esplanade Hotel from 25/10/10

This is a wonderful hotel, came here many years ago, loved it then and it is still a good choice. Lovely food, rooms are very clean, we had entertainment every night which was a bonus for us and the staff were very obliging and friendly. A lovely holiday all round!

Excellent

Good hotel. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful. Room very clean and tidy, food excellent and plentiful. I think excellent value for money. Only down side is that the entertainment is poor and the lift wasn’t working. I’ll be going again in September.
