Hotel information

Ilfracombe stands on the rugged North Devon coast as a hugely popular Victorian seaside resort. Our hotel is a short walk from the bustling 10th-century harbour where Britain’s most famous living artist, Damien Hirst, has installed an iconic statue for the region. The welcoming Dilkhusa Grand is situated on the level seafront and overlooks the picturesque Runnymeade Gardens and unique Landmark Theatre, which attracts many national acts.

The hotel has a fascinating history. Originally a private house, it was bought by a Raj at the turn of the last century as a gift to his wife - Dilkhusa translates roughly as ‘House of the Happy Heart!’ Today’s Dilkhusa includes a well-appointed restaurant and spacious and comfortable entertainment suite in which to enjoy the acts at this friendly and sociable hotel.

This hotel only has a limited amount of parking spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. A limited amount of on street parking is sometimes available opposite the hotel. There is also a public car park, a short distance away, charges apply.

Long Weekend Away

Rooms were good. Beds comfy. Staff lovely especially Jackie the cleaner, and Zsanett our waitress. Food was very POOR in quality, and was obviously prepared by cooks and not chefs. Worst hotel food I have ever had and not a patch on other Shearings hotels that we have stayed in. Breakfast is good. Dinner on the whole is not good. But other than that it was very good value for money, and EXACTLY like it looked in the pictures unlike what D Middleton said about it. Rooms at the front are very noisy!

Just returned from Dilkhusa hotel Ilfracombe after 5 days the room was on the second floor the toilet seat was loose the food was children’s portions can’t fault the staff the entertainment was poor. And the lift was dated all in all wouldn’t advise anyone with walking problems to entertain going the company was good. But the hotel needs updating not a bit like it looks like in the brochure.

We will be going back

We went on a 5 day Shearings coach holiday to Ilfracombe, and our coach driver Andy explained that we would be the first party in the hotel this year after the Christmas holidays, you could tell as soon as you walked into the hotel for it felt cool, but it did warm up after a couple of days. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, John the entertainment manager was first class, and the shows he put on was excellent, the food was first class, and you could not fault the service.

Hurray for Bay

We booked this all inclusive break last minute - our aim is to try and get away once a month to survive the winter months and after this short break we will certainly be looking to go again. It was fantastic value for money and the staff were brilliant. In particular the restaurant ran like clockwork and there was great choice on the menus - even a glass of wine included in the evening meals. We had entertainment each evening which we enjoyed . The room was clean but needed a little TLC.

Excellent Value for Money :0)

Had 3 night stay. Do not let 1st impression of outside hotel put you off, needs lick of paint but that’s all. Was 3rd stay in Bay Hotel, having recently been Newquay & Torquay. This was best suited to our group ages 43 - 66. Entertainment in others catered for over 70's only. All staff = superb. Excellent cleaninless, restaurant & entertainment. Suitability for disabled A*, had craftmatic/automatic bed & there are chair lifts on the few stairs to restaurant. Very close to sea front, harbour & town.

Surprise surprise!!!!

Gutted when I went into the room and saw how dated it was, but I must give you 10/10 for your entertainment, Simon Cain was brilliant, all your staff are excellent, we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble, we would definitely return. You put other more expensive hotels to shame.

This is an extremely busy hotel catering for over 100 people a day. There is a good choice of food for starters mains and sweet served with a smile. We cannot praise the staff enough for their friendly attitude. Our room was quite large and adequate for us the bed was quite comfortable! The hotel is very old but so is my house a coat of paint does work wonders! The location is excellent for walking and exploring. The entertainment was first class Simon Cain well! Go see him brill!

We enjoyed it

Yes the hotel is dated, in places need some TLC. but we had a fabulous holiday with you, our room was kept lovely by Jackie P, who was really helpful, the bar staff were efficient and friendly, Andy the night porter was good. What can I say about Simon Cain, he was 1st class, the entertainment was brilliant, THANK YOU. The food was good except for one evening, THURSDAY, what went wrong, the service was slow, and the beef ran out. what a letdown, to an otherwise good service. would we return?? YES YES.?

A great week’s stay!

We stayed at this hotel for a week in June. The hotel was excellent and could not be faulted in any way. The staff could not do enough to assist you at any time! Nothing was too much trouble, we would come back again as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!!

I wanted to run when I arrived, but very glad that I didn't!

I must say I am ashamed to say that when I entered my very dated room and horrible shower room I wanted to leave and book into somewhere else.....especially after turning the tiny TV on and to find only four channels....but hey I thought, it's only a base to explore glorious North Devon, it's only four nights, its enjoy your holiday and do you know....that's exactly what I would say to anyone who had the same thought as me....give this hotel a chance! Wonderful staff, good food etc
